Ream National Park
Ream Nation
Park is 18 kilometer from downtown Sihanouk Ville towards Phnom Penh to the
Park entrance. Probably, we need another 10 kilometers to get inside the park down
to the beach. The park is also home to
an amazing array of wildlife and marine life including over 155 species of birds.
The lush jungle
and beautiful beaches are still all but untouched by tourists, and there are
only a few villages. These days, most visitors come to Ream National Park to
connect with nature and get away from stress with plentiful attractions.
Activities
that are available are kayaking, hiking, bird-watching, beachcombing, snorkeling,
etc.
It was established
in 1993 by the former king, His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk. The park covers 15,000
hectares of land and 6,000 hectares of marine habitat. The park offers walking
tours of the mountain, safari tours of the smaller mammals and birds, and
waterfalls.
This was not
a concern of the dictatorship, but the new democratically elected government
say the protection of these plants and animals as a primary mission and the
park was created as a result. The government has also been very careful to
limit the number of tourists that can come to this area.
